CCS Graduate Mentor Program

Every semester, the department seeks to pair one graduate student with each section of CCS 10A and 10B, and some sections of CCS 74 in order to foster a greater sense of community among the students and to facilitate an extended student-centered learning environment in and out of the classroom.

ACCESS Center - Academic Success Center

The ASC is dedicated to enhancing student achievement at 91ÁÔÆæ by creating a services hub for students and faculty. Several innovative collaborative learning spaces and student services are available.

ASPIRE

Educational Opportunity Program 

EOP offers academic advising and retention services to first-generation, low-income college students to aid them in their goal of succeeding at 91ÁÔÆæ and beyond their degree.

McNair Scholars Program

McNair helps students who are interested in pursuing graduate school by providing resources to help you prepare for doctoral studies. They also provide faculty mentoring and an opportunity to pursue undergraduate research opportunities. In addition, they assist you in finding ways to finance your graduate studies. Great place to start if you are thinking of pursuing a Ph.D.  

Offers free mentoring and tutoring services to undergraduate 91ÁÔÆæ students

  • Workshops every semester with a wide variety of topics including preparing for the Writing Skills Test (WST), improving your learning and memory, alleviating procrastination, and surviving your first semester at 91ÁÔÆæ.

Study Abroad Program 

The first step for interested students to learn more about the study abroad process and ask any questions they may have is for them to attend an information session.

General Study Abroad information sessions are held throughout the year. These sessions cover topics such as study abroad locations, eligibility, deadlines, courses, payments, academics, and more.

Gender Equity Center

Strive to empower our students and educated the campus on a multitude of issues facing society based on gender.  They organize and participate in a variety of events throughout the year, including the: Clothesline Project, Vagina Monologues, Take Back the Night, South Bay Womyn's Conference, etc.

Pride Center

The mission of the Pride Center is to support the LGBTIQQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, Ally) students of San José State University. Through dynamic programming and educational outreach, the Resource Center seeks to improve the campus climate for LGBTIQQA students and advocate for the respect and safety of all members of the campus community. In collaboration with other campus programs the Pride Center works to meet the needs of students to promote the successful completion of their educational goals.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

This foundation works every year to provide scholarships to Latina college students.  This year they will award up to 31 scholarships.  

College of Social Sciences Scholarships

Each year the College of Social Sciences offers a number of scholarships based on merit and/or financial need to students majoring in any of our college's departments. In addition to educational scholarships, the college also has a scholarship for study abroad and for students wishing to engage in research.

Dr. Ernesto Galarza Scholarship

Provides scholarships to incoming transfer students from San José Community College (SJCC) and Evergreen Valley College (EVC).

Graduate, continuing 91ÁÔÆæ undergraduate students, as well as incoming transfer students from 91ÁÔÆæ and EVC are invited to apply.

Application deadline is usually the beginning of April.

Food Resources for Students

Students who are having a difficult time with obtaining enough food to maintain a healthy and culturally appropriate diet can find on-campus as well as off-campus assistance at this site.

Student Health Center

Provides medical care to students enrolled at 91ÁÔÆæ. In addition to treating acute conditions, injuries, and illnesses, the Health Center provides a family planning program and maintains an in-house licensed pharmacy, a physical therapy department, a federally certified high complexity laboratory, and an x-ray department.
