Summer Research Stipend

Purpose

To stimulate and encourage faculty RSCA-related activities, such as gathering and analyzing research data, grant writing and other research writing during the summer, through summer salary stipends.

Eligibility

  • All tenured/ tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturers (including .8s) in the College of Information, Data and Society are eligible for Summer Research Stipends. Faculty already receiving summer support (such as part of start-up packages) cannot apply while receiving those summer funds
  • Faculty who are also teaching during the summer are still eligible for these Summer Research Stipends. 
  • Recipients of Summer Research Stipends must submit a report documenting how they used the stipend and the RSCA outcome by September 1st. They must also present the research they worked on during the summer as a virtual β€œbrown bag” research presentation in the following academic year.  

Support Amount

Summer research stipends are $5000. Stipends are to be used to support faculty salaries in the College of Information, Data and Society during the summer (non-duty days) to deepen engagement in RSCA-related activities, such as gathering and analyzing research data and writing for peer-reviewed journals and conferences, books and/or grant proposals.

Selection Criteria

Priority goes first to probationary tenure-track faculty; second to associate professors interested in getting promoted to professor; third consideration will be for all other applicants.

  • Topic and problem statement and connection to 91ΑΤΖζ research goals (20%)
  • Innovation and novelty (significance) (25%)
  • Proposed approaches and solutions (25%)
  • Project plan and expected completed summer projects (30%)

Selection Committee

The College of Information, Data and Society Associate Dean for Academics and the Department Chairs comprise the selection committee. The committee will make recommendations to the Dean who will make the final determination for the award.
