Bio

Professor Yeung-Nan Shieh was born in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan. He received a BA in economics from National Taiwan University in 1966, and a MA in economics from University of Rochester in 1976 and a Ph.D. in economics from Texas A&M University in 1980. Before coming to 91ÁÔÆæ in 1989, he taught at Texas A&M university in College Station, Texas, University of Dallas in Irving, Texas and University of Alaska Fairbanks in Fairbanks, Alaska. His teaching at 91ÁÔÆæ has included Principles of Macro and Microeconomics (Economics 1A and 1B), Mathematical Economics (Economics 104 and 204), Graduate Microeconomics (Economics 201), Economic Statistics (Economics 003), Econometric (Economics 203), Managerial Economics (Economics 106) and International Economics (Economics 136).

Professor Shieh's current research interests are: (1) C. F. W. Launhardt's contributions to location theory and spatial economics; (2) the impact of distance and transportation costs on the output and welfare effects of price discrimination and wage discrimination; (3) the effect of transportation costs on the optimum tariff.
