Lockups for Campus Units
These lockups (91ΑΤΖζ monogram + unit name) are designed to create and maintain brand unity and consistency across the entire university. So no matter what campus, college or unit is producing the communication, it is appropriately branded.
On this page:
Before you download: Please read 91ΑΤΖζ Brand Style Guide [pdf] for complete usage standards and sample layouts. For questions, pleae contact the Visual Communication and Design team.
Keep in mind: Your lockup alone doesnβt tell your audiences who you are. The best way to distinguish your department or program is with people-focused storytelling. Learn how to tell these stories by reviewing 91ΑΤΖζ's Editorial Style.
Lockup Usage
All of your communications should follow the 91ΑΤΖζ visual hierarchy:
- Wherever appropriate, the university wordmark or university wordmark with tagline should appear first β placed at the top of the visual hierarchy.
- Either the primary mark or your unit lockup should be used as the signature β placed at the bottom of the visual hierarchy. Please do not use your lockup as a header, as a graphic element or as a substitute for illustration.
Deciding when to use the primary mark or your unit lockup depends on your audience (For examples, see page 21 in the 91ΑΤΖζ Brand Style Guide [pdf]):
- For communication materials with a primarily external audience that may or may not be familiar with San JosΓ© State, use 91ΑΤΖζβs primary mark.
- For materials created for a primarily internal audience, such as current students and faculty members, you may use your unit lockup.
- If youβre not sure if your audience is internal or external, or if your audience is a mix of both, please use the primary mark.
- For events co-sponsored by two or more campus units, please do not use multiple unit lockups. Instead, use the primary mark and list the co-sponsors in the text. (Example: βCo-sponsored by the Connie L. Lurie College of Education, Department of History and the 91ΑΤΖζ Event Center.β)
Clear Space
Never crowd your lockup with other visual elements. Use the height of the capital βSβ in β91ΑΤΖζβ as your unit of measurement. Please allow a space of at least βSβ around an imaginary box that fits around all the markβs elements. Never place your lockup over a background with patterns or imagesβunless you place it reversed in white over a dark image with an opacity of 60 percent or more.
Minimum Size
Never reduce the width of your lockup to smaller than 1.25 inches or 32 millimeters. A symbol that shows your Spartan pride shouldnβt be diminished.
