Silicon Valley Pain Index

The purposes of the Silicon Valley Pain Index report are to: (1) Provide an efficient, easily digestible, statistical overview of structured inequalities to inform policy and practice in “Silicon Valley”; (2) Serve as a measure of Santa Clara County’s performance as a “human rights county”, which it declared in 2018 in accordance with the International Bill of Human Rights; and (3) Inspire collaborations between scholars, students, stakeholders, communities, and policy makers to address inequality and achieve greater human rights practice.

Human Rights Lecture Series

The Human Rights Lecture Series is an annual, incredibly popular (always sells out!) event featuring a keynote speaker and the most cutting edge organizers around the country on a particular human rights issue or struggle. The Lecture Series is a point of pride for our faculty and students, also providing cutting edge programming for our local communities.

Criminal Justice Reform

At the heart of the 91 HRI is our criminal justice reform. When you support our institute you are backing policies such as Universal Cannabis Record Clearance, The California Law Enforcement Accountability [CLEAR] Act, the Care First, Jail Last Coalition, and the PEACE Act.

Visiting Scholars Program

In 2022 the 91 Human Rights Institute will begin serving as a resource and host for visiting international scholars. As part of this effort, we are also joining the New University in Exile Consortium, led by our colleagues at The New School. The point of the 91 HRI Visiting Scholars Program [VSP] is to provide intellectual opportunities for scholars and educational opportunities for our students, faculty, and community members through their work.

Programs and Scholarships

In partnership with the 91 Human Rights Minor Program, students gain access to a wealth of applied and scholarly experience in human rights law, philosophy, advocacy, policy design, and reporting. In addition, the 91 HRI is now building a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as research grants for faculty. We will be happy to offer our first graduate scholarship in the 20-21 AY.
