Workshops

Peer Health Education Workshops

Peer Health Education workshops are designed to be facilitated by students, for students. Workshops generally last 45 - 60 minutes and are scheduled by request for student organizations, academic classes, and other campus departments. Workshop hosts are responsible for the following: communicating any accessibility needs in advance, promoting and recording attendance, encouraging active and respectful participation during the workshop.

Cooking Healthy, Eating Well

CHEW (Cooking Healthy, Eating Well) classes are hands-on cooking workshops where students can gain the confidence and skills needed to cook at home. Our goal is to teach students how to prepare quick and easy meals using seasonal, low-cost ingredients. Registration for CHEW classes open 1 week before a scheduled demo date.

Information Session, Tabling, and Interview Requests

Submit your request for tabling representation, an information session, or an interview about the Student Wellness Center. Tabling and information sessions will cover all Student Wellness Center resources and services.

Please allow at least 4-6 weeks advance notice to fulfill a request. Following the online submission, requesters may expect to receive a submission confirmation within 3-5 business days. Although we will attempt our very best to match requests, we may not be able to fulfill all requests.

Trainings for Students

For information about trainings for Faculty and Staff, please visit the Faculty/Staff Training webpage.

Mental Health First Aid

Become certified as a Mental Health First Aider! Just as CPR helps us assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps us assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, trainers learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

Please email the Mental Health Education Coordinator if you're interested at scheanelle.green@sjsu.edu.

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR)

Ask a Question, Save a Life

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
