Department History
The Biomedical Engineering Department was officially established as an independent department on July 1, 2018.
Development of the BS and MS degree programs began in 2006, with the following major milestones:

2011 | CSU Chancellor Approves B.S. and M.S. Biomedical Engineering Degree Programs |
2012 | First B.S. BME Graduate (May) |
2012 | First Dedicated BME Faculty Joins the Program (August) |
2013-2014 | Two New BME Faculty Join the Program |
2015 | ABET Accreditation Visit; B.S. Biomedical Engineering Degree Program Accredited, effective Oct 14 through Sept 2018 |
2013-2017 | Faculty Strength Grows to Five — Two More New BME Faculty Join the Program |
2017 | New Suite of BME Offices and Dedicated BME Labs Completed |
2017 | ABET Accreditation Visit (September) |
2018 | Guna Selvaduray Appointed Chair of the New Biomedical Engineering Department |
