COMM 101C - Junior Seminar: Theorizing Communication
This page provides an overview of , Junior Seminar: Theorizing Communication, and answers to frequently asked questions about the course.
- Course Structure: COMM 101C is a 4-unit course that is broken up into a 3-unit asynchronous large lecture via Canvas and a 1-unit synchronous small activity section, which is offered in two different synchronous modalities: online via Zoom or in person.
- Enrollment: When enrolling for COMM 101C, you will enroll in the 3-unit lecture first (01-LEC) and then you will select your preferred 1-unit activity section (02-ACT, 03-ACT, etc.). When selecting your preferred activity section, consider the day/time the section meets as well as the modality, either online via Zoom (Room will be listed as TBA) or in person (Room will be listed as Hugh Gillis Hall).
- Lecture: The lecture component of the course occurs asynchronously online, through Canvas. You will engage with online content (lecture videos, readings, and assignments) developed by several faculty in the Department of Communication Studies, which will provide you the opportunity to learn about different areas of communication from experts in those areas (e.g., rhetoric, interpersonal communication, health communication, organizational communication, environmental communication, performance studies, intercultural communication, etc.).
- Activity: The activity component of the course occurs synchronously, either in-person or via
Zoom (depending on the format of the activity section you register for). The activity
component is similar to a lab you might take in a science course, where the meetings
will give you an opportunity to engage with your peers and apply content from the
lecture component of the course through various in-class activities and assignments.
COMM 101C, Junior Seminar: Theorizing Communication, is offered in Fall and Spring. If you have questions about this course before you enroll, please email the lecture section (01-LEC) instructor (not the activity instructors).
