Investigations and Crime Prevention
Services
We serve the 91ÁÔÆæ community by conducting investigations into all criminal cases which occur within the jurisdiction of UPD. We also provide:
- Assistance to other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies whose own investigations involve 91ÁÔÆæ property or personnel
- Civil investigations on behalf of 91ÁÔÆæ
- Crime prevention programs
- Dignitary protection
- Filing issued complaints with the Superior Court
- Follow-up investigations of crimes reported to patrol officers
- Fugitive apprehension
- Internal investigations of citizen complaints
- Pre-employment background checks for UPD employees
- Registration of sex offenders who either work at or attend 91ÁÔÆæ
- Special investigations reported directly to us
- Submitting criminal cases to the Office of the District Attorney of Santa Clara County
- Subpoena service
Support
We support other law enforcement agencies by working closely with other investigators and/or participating in task forces with:
- California Narcotics Officers' Association
- California Sexual Assault Investigators' Association
- High-Tech Crime Investigators' Association
- Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team (SCCSET)
- Santa Clara Valley Intelligence Unit
Training
We participate in the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigations certification process. We also receive several hundred hours of specialized training in such areas as:
- Background investigation
- Burglary and theft
- Computer crime
- Evidence collection
- Internal affairs
- Interview and interrogation
- Sexual assault
