April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). While prevention efforts are year-round, we specifically devote the month of April to spotlighting the issues of sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. The programs and events listed below offer opportunities to educate ourselves, support survivors, and connect our community to create change.

Teal Tuesdays

April 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th | Various locations | All day

Wear teal on Tuesdays to show support and spread awareness. Post on social media using #91ÁÔÆæSAAM and tell us why you are in solidarity about this issue.

SAAM Drive

April 3rd - April 26th | Cesar Chavez Community Action Center | Student Union Center, Suite 1550

For the month of April, the César E. Chávez Community Action Center is collaborating with Survivor Advocacy Services to organize a donation drive for the Santa Clara Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). Each donation will receive a raffle ticket to win a prize! Prizes include: Air fryer, Stanley Cup, & an instant Kodak Camera.

Items to donate:

  • Sweatsuits (tops & bottoms - no logos)
  • Leggings (no logos)
  • Tunic Tops/T-shirts (no logos)
  • Socks (size 5-13)
  • Slides (preferred)/Flip Flops (size 5-13)
  • Slip-on tennis shoes (size 5-13)
  • Sports Bras
  • Shampoo (travel size)
  • Conditioner (travel size)
  • Body wash (travel size)
  • Lotion (travel size)
  • Battery charging cords (iPhone, Android, etc.)

Drop off locations:
CCCAC Office, Student Union (Monday - Friday: 10AM-3PM)

Healing Through Art

April 19th | Wellness Lounge (Student Wellness Center, 1st Floor) | 4PM-5:30PM

Come by the Wellness Lounge to experience a safe and supportive environment to express trauma through art. This is not group therapy, but rather a space to express oneself through various art forms. No art experience is required, materials will be supplied, and all are welcome to join in expressing, sharing, connecting, and supporting. Registration can be found here. *Not required but highly encouraged*

Additional materials about Sexual Assault Awareness Month and how to support a survivor will be provided.

Cooking Up Consent with CHEW & PHE

April 26th | Student Wellness Center, Room 122 | 3PM-4:30PM

Sharpen your pizza making and consent skills during this special Denim Day cooking demo with the Cooking Healthy Eating Well (CHEW) Crew and Peer Health Educators (PHE). Denim Day

April 26th | Various locations | All day

For over 20 years, wearing jeans on Denim Day has been a symbol for supporting survivors, raising awareness, and protesting against destructive attitudes about sexual violence. 91ÁÔÆæ students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to join us in wearing denim for a purpose on April 26th.
