Admissions Process Part 1 of 2

An electronic application must be submitted to . Please visit Graduate Admissions for information on completing this part of the application process. Payment of the CSU Application Fee of $70 will be accepted by credit card or paypal only. The payment must be made in order to submit your  university application.

Deadlines

The application deadline for students interested in beginning in Spring semester is December 1st for domestic applicants and October 1st for international applicants.

The application deadline for students interested in beginning in Fall semester is July 1st for domestic applicants and April 1st for international applicants.

Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations (GAPE) requires the following by the deadlines:  
  • Application submitted through 
  • Information for domestic and international applicants can be found at the Graduate Admissions website.
  • Applicants must have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher in their last 60 semester units (90 quarter units) of coursework and a 3.0 or higher in their respective major.
  • Official Transcripts (must be sent sealed by the issuing institution)
  • Visit the Enrollment Management website for detailed application instructions.

Admissions Process Part 2 of 2

The following information must be submitted to  by the deadlines listed above:

  1. Two (2) letters of recommendation
    • Recommenders should discuss your academic ability and potential to succeed at the graduate level. Academic references are preferred.
  2. Essay
    • To complete this item, respond to the statement below:
      • Describe and discuss a justice-related issue you see as important to our society and/or particularly relevant to contemporary times.
    • In your essay, you may want to focus on one or more of the following questions:
      • What are the social causes of this issue?
      • What are its historical origins?
      • What explains its persistence?
      • How does it impact the human rights of individuals involved?
      • How is this issue being addressed by our society?
      • Could it be addressed differently?
      • What policy changes would be needed?
    • Your response should be no more than 1,250 words in 12-point font, double-spaced; cite and reference any sources used. Maintain consistent formatting throughout the essay. If submitting via email, use .doc or .pdf format.

Payment of the CSU Application Fee of $70 will be accepted by credit card or paypal only. The payment must be made in order to submit your university application. Programs are categorized as "Campus" or "Extended Learning," and the Criminology, Global Criminolgy Concentration MS degree program is found in the Extended Learning group. 

Please Note:

Non-US citizens may enroll in this degree program without traveling to the US because this program is offered completely online. Therefore, they do not need an F1 student visa to enroll. Under this condition, they should use the application for domestic students and not indicate themselves as an "International Applicant." 

Deadlines

An electronic application must be submitted to (The California State University application portal) by December 1st for admission to the spring semester, and July 1st for admission to the fall semester. Applications are reviewed after the deadline and applicants should expect to hear about the admission decision shortly after.

Admissions Process Part 2 of 2

The following information must be submitted to by the deadlines listed above:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • A 3.0 or higher GPA in the last 60 units/credits (90 quareter units) of coursework and a 3.0 or higher GPA in their respective major
  • Official transcripts (must be sent sealed by the issuing institution)
  • Applicants with degree obtained outside the United States: TOEFL score of 80 (Internet based), 550 (Paper based), or 212 (Computer based)
  • Duolingo English Test is an acceptable alternative to TOEFL

Applicants should also have a general understanding of computers and technology and access to a reliable internet connection.

Applicants do not have to submit a statement of purpose for this program, and applicants may write "N/A" or "not applicable" in the text box for the statement and move on to the next item. Reference to a "Document Deadline" should be disregarded. Once required material referenced in Cal State Apply is submitted, the application is complete.
