The Biology Change of Major materials and application process is for current students declared a major in the Biological Sciences Department AND for students declared a major outside the Biological Sciences Department interested in pursuing a change of major to any major within the Biological Sciences Department.

Notice about Change of Major to Students:

Change of Major requirements are subject to change without notice between academic years.

It is your responsibility, as the student, to stay engaged with change of major materials and resources every semester. 

You must complete the change of major application process to be considered for any change of major to or within the College of Science. 


Change of Major Advising Steps

You must be logged in to your 91ΑΤΖζ student Google account to access the following resources.

Step 1:

We advise students review change of major materials every semester and meet with a CoS-SSC advisor to verify their personal pathway towards applying for a change of major.

College of Science students must complete the β€œIntent to Change Majors Google Form” to express their interest in pursuing a change of major every semester until they have successfully been accepted to the new major. 

Students on Progress Notice are subject to disqualification in the major. See the College of Science Academic Notice policy for more information.

Step 2: Complete the

Students must complete the Change of Major Planning worksheet to meet with an advisor for change of major advising.

Step 3: Schedule an appointment via and meet with a CoS-SSC Advisor to discuss Change of Major requirements and application process.

Notice to newly admitted Spring 2025 students: Change of Major Advising will be available to you after you have completed your Spring '25 Spartan Experience Transfer (SET) Orientation. Schedule a change of major advising appointment through Spartan Connect starting January 20th, 2025. Change of Major Advising appointments scheduled with CoS-SSC before January 20th will be cancelled or rescheduled to a later date.

Applying to Biology

Evaluate your eligibility based on current admission criteria before applying to a major within the Biology Department.

Fall 2024 applications are closed. 

If you have questions about your change of major application, email the College of Science Academic Programs support unit at science-academicprograms@sjsu.edu.

Submitting a Change of Major Application does not automatically result in admittance to the major.
