Barozzi Scholarship

Description

The Louie Barozzi Scholarship recognizes San Jose State University international students and U.S. students participating in an 91ÁÔÆæ certified Study Abroad program for their contributions to the community and commitment to international education and exchange.

Three awards are given annually in the amount of $1,000 each: one to a Study Abroad and Away participant, one to an international undergraduate student, and one an international graduate student.

The scholarship honors the memory of Louie Barozzi and his contributions to San Jose State University and the field of International Education. Louie joined San Jose State in 1968 as adviser to student organizations, a position he held for 11 years. He then became academic adviser and counselor to students, specializing in assisting international students. He served 10 years as the first director of International Programs and Services, which he was instrumental in creating. Louie served a total of 30 years at San Jose State University.

Eligibility Requirements

Scholarship recipients will be expected to:

  • Must be a fully matriculated 91ÁÔÆæ student
  • Must have a minimum 3.25 GPA (cumulative)
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12 units as an undergraduate, or 9 units as a graduate student)
  • Must be participating in an 91ÁÔÆæ-certified study abroad program for one term (fall, spring, or summer*) or an academic year. Summer is defined as a 5-week session. Certified programs are:
    • 91ÁÔÆæ Exchange Program
    • CSU IP Program
    • ISEP Program
    • Faculty-Led Program (minimum 5 weeks long)
    • Summer School Abroad Program (minimum 5 weeks long)
  • SAA alumni not eligible; must be for a current or future program

Scholarship Qualifications

Preference will go to students who:

  • Demonstrate active participation in on-campus events and organizations
  • Demonstrate involvement in community service anywhere in the world
  • Are enthusiastic about international education and exchange at 91ÁÔÆæ
  • Are able to clearly articulate how they would promote internationalization on campus

Scholarship recipients will be expected to:

  • Write a biographical statement and letter of appreciation to the scholarship committee and Barozzi family.
  • Assist designated staff, students, and faculty with making 91ÁÔÆæ a global campus and a global community.
  • Assist with the promotion of study abroad or 91ÁÔÆæ degree programs and the recruitment of future applicants through classroom presentations, distributing publicity materials, Study Abroad Fairs, etc.
