Biography

I teach courses on energy and sustainability in the Department of Environmental Studies at San José State University, one of oldest environmental studies programs in the USA (founded on the first Earth Day 1970).  Before my appointment in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at UC Berkeley, I received my Ph.D. at UC Santa Cruz in the Department of Environmental Studies.  My experience includes working for a bioremeditation startup before graduate school as a project engineer on MTBE spills as well as a chemical process engineer for a Fortune 500 chemical manufacturer.  I am a member of the American Association of Geographers, the Society for the Social Studies of Science, and the Association of Environmental Studies and Sciences.  I also participate in a group of academics known as alternative agrifood researchers without borders.
