Sponsor Faculty-Led Projects - Path "B"

Overview

This pathway allows for collaboration with the ME Department's 17 tenure and tenure-track faculty members. By following this path, sponsors will  benefit from our faculty members' diverse areas of research while simultaneously enabling faculty to effectively push the cutting edge of their research.

Projects under this pathway can also involve undergraduate and/or graduate research assistants as well as Postdoctoral researchers. 

Procedure

  • This pathway can be arranged for any duration agreed between the sponsor and the leading faculty member. 
  • Upon the establishment of a scope of work, the faculty will submit a proposal via the 91ÁÔÆæ Research Foundation. 
  • The Research Foundation will handle the proposal submission process and reach out to the sponsoring company to arrange details. 
  • Sponsors are welcome to include an annual progress report or regular meeting with faculty and researchers. 

Specifications

  • Under this pathway, scopes of projects may be more flexible. Specific deliverables may be specified.
  • Publication embargos may be requested. 
  • Path B focuses on innovative and patentable technologies that are more aligned with sponsors' business goals. 
  • An NDA may be signed between the Research Foundation and the sponsor. 
  • Intellectual properties (IP) will be owned by the University. The company can have a right to have a license or exlusive license with a prearranged fee with the Research Foundation. Joint ownership is also possible if the sponsor has enough background IP.
