Advising
Change of Major to Mechanical Engineering
Due to high demand and limited resources, the ME department cannot accept all major switch requests at the moment. We only review the applicants who met the following eligibility criteria:
- Minimum B in MATH 30 & 31, and PHYS 50; without no more than two courses or 8 units of repetition in these courses.
- 91ÁÔÆæ GPA: 3.0
If none of the two above criteria is met, the application will be automatically rejected. If one of the two above criteria is not satisfied by a small margin, and the 91ÁÔÆæ GPA is not less than 2.5, we will propose a study plan where students need to perform B+ or better in all courses listed on the study plan. Sample example of study plan: Demonstrate B+ or better in ME101, ME111, and CE95 while maintaining a full time status (12 units).
Meeting the eligibility requirement does not mean being accepted to the program. We will rank all the candidates and admit students once the department identifies available seats. After a major change request is verbally approved, the student must arrange a meeting with ME advisor to learn the future plan toward completion. With students' acknowledgement of the plan, the chair will submit a change of major request to the Office of the Registrar. Please note that the request can still be denied by the University.
