Eligibility for Graduation:
Before applying for graduation, verify that you meet the following criteria:
- Earned at least 85 units (90 units for some colleges), with no more than 70 units from community colleges
- Be in good academic standing (being on academic notice is fine)
- Be able to complete all degree requirements within one or two semesters
You should also:
- Confirm you have completed all GE and 91ÁÔÆæ Studies requirements on My91ÁÔÆæ.
- Review all expected transfer credits. Contact eval@sjsu.edu to report any discrepancies.
- Ensure that you have declared all majors and minors.
- Verify your name, mailing address, and email address on My91ÁÔÆæ.
Finally, check for any major or college specific requirements.
- College of Business has additional requirements from the Jack Holland Success Center.
- College of Science students must follow specific steps to apply for graduation.
Application Deadlines
You must apply for graduation no later than the add deadline of the term in which you wish the graduate. If you do not see the "Apply" button on My91ÁÔÆæ, contact your graduation evaluator.
Be proactive. If you apply by the dates shown below, you will receive priority class registration. These deadlines also apply to Graduation Date Change forms.

Be sure to follow the instructions from your college to apply for graduation. Some colleges have earlier deadlines for their internal processes.

How to Apply
- Locate and click the "Apply Button" in My91ÁÔÆæ. Browse this tutorial [pdf] for additional information. If you do not see the "Apply Button", contact your graduation evaluator.
- You will receive an email confirmation when your graduation evaluator has reviewed your record.
- For additional questions at any point in the process, contact your graduation evaluator.
Graduation Status in MyProgress
Your graduation status in My91ÁÔÆæ should have one of four values. If your status is blank, you are not yet eligible to apply.
Application Review Process
- You apply online via My91ÁÔÆæ:
- Your Graduation Status will say "Applied for Graduation"
- Your Graduation Status will say "Applied for Graduation"
- Your Graduation Evaluator will review your application for degree requirements:
- The MyProgress report lists all degree requirements.
- The MyProgress report lists all degree requirements.
- Your evaluator will send a confirmation email to your 91ÁÔÆæ address:
- Applicants should review their MyProgress report
- The email will list any deficiencies or issues
- Follow the instructions in the email to address items that need attention

After Applying
- After you have applied for graduation and your evaluator has reviewed your record, your Graduation Status on My91ÁÔÆæ will change to "Needs to finish pending work". This status will remain until we award your degree.
- If you have taken or are currently taking coursework at another institution, submit
official transcripts that shows final grades as soon as possible. 91ÁÔÆæ accepts official
electronic transcripts. Use the etranscript@sjsu.edu email address.
- Make sure each of your GPAs are 2.0 or higher.

- Review MyProgress each semester to make sure it is accurate.
- Resolve any I (incomplete) and RD (report delayed) grades
- Clear up outstanding Study Abroad coursework
- Clear any holds that may be on your record
If you will not complete your degree requirements by the end of your planned semester, you must change your graduation date.
Your Final Semester
Students must complete all outstanding coursework by the last day of the instruction. See Graduation Checklist to help ensure you are on track.
