Life Insurance
The Research Foundation provides a benefited employee with Group (Term) Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance, both administered by MetLife and offered at the foundation’s own cost.
- The employee’s beneficiary is eligible to receive one (1) times the employee’s gross annual salary rounded to the nearest thousand, to a maximum of $250,000.
- Under the AD&D benefit, an employee receives specified benefits for a covered accidental bodily injury that directly causes dismemberment (examples: loss of a hand, foot, or eye).
Benefited employees are eligible for coverage in the Life and AD&D plans on the first day of the month following their start date, assuming timely submission of enrollment through .
Long-Term Disability Insurance
State Disability Unemployment Insurance (SDI)
This State mandated program, which is funded by taxes, covers all Research Foundation employees. It provides coverage against loss of wages for an employee sustaining a non-work-related injury or illness that prevents the employee from performing his or her regular or customary work. Please note that employee-paid SDI taxes are reimbursed to the employee by the Research Foundation.

Paid Family Leave
Paid Family Leave is unemployment compensation disability insurance of up to six weeks that is paid to individuals who take time off of work to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, parent, or registered domestic partner; to bond with a new child, or to care for a seriously ill parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling.
