ChatGPT and Course Activities

As the discussion continues regarding ChatGPT and AI鈥檚 impact on course activities, we gathered a panel of colleagues to share examples. From a variety of disciplines, hear about how faculty are redesigning their assignment prompts and refining their course policies. In addition, explore how features of Canvas and Hypothesis can support your development of authentic assessments.

• Nitin Aggarwal, College of Business

  • Nitin Aggarwal is a professor with the School of Information Systems and Technology at Lucas College and Graduate School of Business, San Jose State University. He received his Ph.D. in business administration with concentration in MIS from Texas Tech University. He also holds an MBA in marketing and an undergraduate degree in Physics from Delhi, India. His research interests include technology standardization, intellectual property issues in technology development, economics of standards, and transaction cost of technology development.

• Ken Anderson, eCampus  

  • Ken Anderson joined 91猎奇 eCampus in 2022.  Ken has experience with Instructional Design, LMS consulting, course development, and adult learning modalities for various institutions and has taught and designed college level courses since 2013. Ken鈥檚 educational background includes an M.A. in English from Portland State University and, most recently, attending Western Governors University for his M.Ed in Instructional Design.

• Christie DeCarolis, Hypothesis

  • Christie鈥檚 journey in education began in 2009 as a high school history teacher. Following her time in K-12 education, she spent many years as an instructional designer in higher ed, hosting workshops and training faculty in pedagogy and educational technologies. She also teaches online as a university lecturer, and began using Hypothesis in her own courses in 2019. Her success using Hypothesis in her own courses and passion for authentic student engagement led her to join the Hypothesis team as a Customer Success Manager in 2022.

• Tim Hill, College of Business

  • Tim Hill is Professor in the School of Information Systems and Technology at the Lucas Graduate School of Business where he served as Director/Chair for 16 years. He has been with 91猎奇 for nearly 25 years, teaching across the MIS curriculum and developing a set of Business Systems Innovation Labs that  provide hands-on, experiential learning to all Business majors in the college. He has published research in e-Learning, online community & Social Media marketing and impacts.

• Carol-Lynn Perez, College of Social Sciences

  • Carol-Lynn Perez, M.A. is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies at San Jose State University, teaching courses since 2005. She has teaching experience in Social Media, Media and Resistance, Small Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Critical Decision Making, Public Speaking, and specializes in Conflict Resolution, Communication & Conflict and Mediation. She also teaches the Synthesis & Application course, the culminating experience for graduating seniors.

• Lin Zhou, College of Engineering

  • Dr. Lin Zou has a Ph.D. in comparative literature from UC Berkeley.  She also has an M.A. degree in Sociology, and a B.S. in Chemistry.  She has taught at Indiana University at Bloomington, UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University and San Jose State University.
